Well we should start by introducing ourselves.

EvolveAware was originally created by Australian yoga teachers and meditators as an idea that would overtime grow into something more. EvolveAware is a philosophy that believes in self development at a pace that is aware of itself.

What On Earth Does that mean!?

Basically EvolveAware believes we should exercise our bodies our minds and eat healthily.

So How is this Unique?

Well, we all know we should exercise for 30 minutes a day and eat 5 fruit and vegetables but for many people this just isn’t enough for a fulfilling life.

Many people still feel under nourished with our modern way of living and the real kicker is that even though we do all the things we are told is good for us we still  feel like crap, And don’t know why!

 

We believe a more holistic strategy for living is needed. While Dr Smith by and large has doctor-medical-medicine-health-42273always been well intentioned, he has only been taught from a text book. A text book that while to our current understandings of science, is scientifically rigorous, is not necessarily always helpful.

One Flaw of Science

Science is unequivocally, unarguably 100% a good thing. Science is in its purest sense a search for truth based on elements we have found to be already true. Its a tower of knowledge built upon blocks of pre-established “truth”.

For example, we know Water is a liquid and it can boil at a certain temperature. We know all the little truths that go into this concept – liquid molecules, heat energy, gas molecules. And so this little piece of scientific knowledge is accepted as science fact.

What happens however when science comes to a place where it doesnt know or cannot see all the little truths in a situation. Take for example Sleep

We know that the human body is regulated by an internal clock that keeps us on a sleep/wake cycle. Sleep is the time when our bodies repair tissues and maintains itself. We spend nearly a third of our lives snoozing! But we still don’t know WHY!

This is because there are many truths in the sleep concept that science is yet to quantify and discover.

The problem with this is that society has become accustomed to calling these unquantifiable truths fictions, when in fact they are just realities we don’t yet know how to fit into our understanding and process.

Our Purpose

We believe there are alternative means of healthy fulfilling living and that is what EvolveAware seeks to promote. We aren’t afraid to try the alternative ways of life even though science has yet to verify them. By living out our own experiences we seek to see what our reality is and share it with others.

Yoga mats come in a plethora of different colors and patterns to suit all yogis. Looking past that yoga mats then also have a wide variety of different textures, materials and thicknesses that make choosing your perfect mat a minefield of possibilities.

The grip or stickiness of your yoga mat is what makes you stable on the floor. You do not want a mat that will slide around during your first Downward Facing Dog.

With that in mind you will be looking at them a lot and you do want to get one that will retain its looks as time goes on. Maybe choose something that will resonate with you for a long time as opposed to a big bright fluorescent mat that looked cool in the night markets!

The texture of your mat includes its absorbency and “stickiness”. A mat with a raised texture will stick to the floor better than other styles. A textured mat will easily stick to the floor even without suction. This means that textured mats are easier to remove from

Textured mats are often sturdier and more durable than sticky mats, but they do not provide quite as much stability.

Mat Thickness

Thickness is another factor to consider when buying a yoga mat. In general the thicker the mat, the more comfortable you will be in on it. Thickness tends to correlate with heavier weights, so bear in mind how heavy your mat is if your going to be carrying it a lot. Thick mats generally retain more liquid than a thin mat, so consider having a yoga towel or wipes handy for maintenance.

 

Choosing your yoga mat may take trying several different ones. Always consider the above factors and the cost. Today’s mats are generally made from durable materials that can last a long time but yoga mat quality does vary. A cheap PVC mat can cost just $20

but may not last long or be comfortable. Meanwhile a high quality yoga mat could cost hundreds of dollars but offer luxurious comfort and beautiful patterns of inspiration.

Top 3 Poses for a Yoga Detox

 

Yoga Detox

Ever feel a little tired and weighed down while going about your day to day activities? Or find getting out of your warm bed really difficult even though you’ve already had your 8 hours?

A tired body or mind is often a very good sign that your body is expending energy just maintaining itself, a good sign your body needs a detox!

A detox doesn’t always mean eating salads or drinking a cabbage juice diet!

Many health practitioners now detox through yoga Heroin Detox – Zhuang et al (2013) *. By using these 3 yogic techniques you can perform a practice that’ll leave you feeling cleaner on the inside and more energetic on the outside.

3: Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand)

Benefits:  This pose helps to drain accumulated lymph fluid from the legs and upper body. Especially used at the end of your practice when all toxins that were released during exercise are flushed toward the heart space to be oxygenated and purified.
Furthermore as an inversion pose it has amazing mood and health benefits- Shapiro et al 2007 * ShoulderStand

Technique:

Start by lying on the floor. Draw your legs back over the head coming into a plow pose. Bring your hands to either side of the spine and slowly bend both your knees and press your feet up into the air. Lift the kneecaps and draw the belly toward the spine. Gaze towards your toes and avoid moving your head to either side. Lower to plow on your way down and return to your first position.

Move into a reclined position on your back and slowly press up, gently placing the crown of your head on the mat. Come onto your forearms one at a time both forearms on the mat. Slowly press up into a backbend, opening through your shoulders.

2: Parivrtta Utkatasana (Chair Twist)

Benefits: This pose fortifies spinal health and this Pose stimulates the liver, spleen, and digestive system. And as an added benefit it also helps tone the stomach improving the detoxification process.

Technique:

Bring your feet  ChairTwisthip-width apart. Bend your knees as if you are sitting on a chair and make sure your knees are aligned with the center of your feet. With your hands together at the heart center bring one elbow to the opposite knee. Now press your palms firmly together. Squeeze your shoulder blades and open your chest wide.

 

1: Urdhava Dhanurasana (Wheel Pose)

Benefits:Wheel pose acts as a cleansing stretch for the body. The wheel aids your digestive and respiratory systems, helping to release nasty toxins out of your body. Practicing Wheel frequently can help your reproductive system and can increase flexibility in your spine, hip flexors and wrists.

Tecnhique:

Start in a reclined position on your back and slowly press up, Wheelgently placing the top of your head onto the mat. Steady your breath. Pause here, preparing the initial actions of the pose: Draw your elbows in toward the mid-line until they’re parallel to each other, engage your back muscles, and push down through the base of your big toes. When aligned, lift up on a breath exhale by extending strongly through your arms and legs. Advanced practitioners aim to hold this for up to 3 minutes using it as a meditative platform. Many new practitioners use props to help with the Wheel Pose as it is a particularly advanced pose.

Final Thoughts

All asanas assist in the detoxification process. So if you feel inspired, have fun with them and choose your own favorites. Whether you are a yogic guru or just a beginner the main focus is to be safe and enjoy yourself.
